Overview:
Elijah sees stories to be told in people, and in objects. He can’t help himself from wondering what caused things to become what they are now. If he sees someone fiddling with jewelry, a question comes to mind; who gave it to them? How important is it? What does it symbolize? A love, a lost love, something else entirely? As such, he became a writer, hoping to be able to use this view of the world as he traveled and be able to write a book.
He likes to put up a brave front and try to run in and deal with things, but that’s not who he is at all. That’s how he wants to be perceived. He’d rather do something stupid and be afraid than not do something and be known as a coward. The illusion of bravery is better, even though it’s ended up with him injured a number of times.
He can easily look into things too much, and overanalyze, as he often does when looking at objects or people. A single detail that might mean nothing suddenly opens a huge world for him to start exploring and analyzing, but how often it means something is usually minimal. When it is that really bugs him, but he has material to use elsewhere now, so it’s not all bad. Granted, half the time he tosses it out for not being real, whereas the other half he decides it’s good enough and keeps it.
He seeks out terrible things in life, and finds himself questioning it. He finds that it adds a sense of realism and gravitas to his work if he’s seen the real thing, and wants to try to emulate it (while being sensitive to those who lived through it). He strives for realism, and as such he goes through a lot of drafts of his work. His work is what he lives for; he neglects a lot of other things, except those that help his work. He’s open and sociable, if only to learn about people and use them as templates, he travels as he writes so that he can get ideas for locations; he tries new things when he can, so he can gain experiences.
Due to the nature of his travels, he never keeps his friends. He makes connections and does talk to them over the phone and such, especially for information after he’s long gone, but having true friends and true connections is difficult for him. He hates it, but at the same time he enjoys it, not having something holding him down/holding him back. Although there are days where he wonders what it would be like to have an actual life, and an actual job.
That being said, he thinks of his job as something of a hobby, and not a real job. He keeps doing it, and doesn’t look back, but still, concerns do plague him from time to time. He’s a traveling writer; by no stretch of the imagination is that a real job. He feels like life is just about to pop up soon and smash him down and force him into something real, but for now he’s enjoying the ride.

History
Elijah was born in London, his father was an architect, and his mother was a principal at a local middle school. He didn’t want to be associated with his mother as he went through her school, and had a hard time with other students because of the connection there. He started to avoid people and find solace on his own, writing.
He found that he really enjoyed it, and he started to let others read it. They didn’t like it. He wrote inconsistently, he didn’t write real people or real situations. He took the criticisms and moved on, watching people, learning. He wrote about real people. He wrote about real locations. He tried to make his writing real.
It worked. People enjoyed his writing after he started to shift things. He decided that that was what he wanted to do with his life. After he got through high school he went to work wherever he could, saving up enough money for a motorcycle at least. He began to travel around, selling whatever stories he could. He did some work for newspapers and such as well.
He eventually moved to America to gain a new perspective. He started to write there as well, but didn’t do as well. He began to shift his style to fit America better. He did well enough to stay in America, at least. He went into some stupidly dangerous places, but it helped his writing.
One day he saw a bright light, followed by a rainbow in the sky. A crimson train appeared briefly, and a man fell to the ground in front of him. The man's red suit shattered, and in his final words, he gave Elijah his equipment and told him to fight, but to beware the "Knife Shadow". The man died, leaving Elijah with the power.
He knew he would have to fight alongside others. He’s afraid, and he’s already died once, but he’s had a duty thrust upon him, and it would give him some new experiences to write about. Hopefully.
